Mindset: Playing the Hand You are Dealt

#TheBetterWay (e38) Mindset: Playing the Hand You are Dealt…

Play the hand you are dealt, NOT the hand you WISH you were dealt!

It’s all about Mindset! When life deals you a hand, the choice is yours whether to hold ’em or fold ’em.

All gamblers know every hand’s a winner, and every hand’s a loser.

Don’t fall for the “3 C’s of Victimhood” when dealt a bad hand. — C- ompare — C – omplain — C – Blame

Instead, ask yourself, “How can I take what was given to me and make the best of it?” or “What good can I turn this into for my benefit?

Your #MINDSET determines your personal outcome…regardless of the hand you are dealt!

…there is ALWAYS a Better Way!

Jump Off That Cliff!

#TheBetterWay (e37) Jump Off That Cliff!

Author Ray Bradbury once said, “You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time, and build your wings on the way down…”

In this episode of The Better Way, let’s discuss a time when YOU jumped off a cliff and had to build your wings on the way down.

Or better yet, let’s discuss a time when you jumped and the wings did not sprout!

Do What You Don’t Have To

#TheBetterWay (e34) Do What You Don’t Have To: A tale of Differentiation

We’ve all had exceptional experiences from a waiter that makes us laugh, a person taking our movie ticket telling us they like our taste in movies, or receiving an unexpected sincere compliment from a stranger that makes us smile and makes our day.

These are the little things that are not in our job description and that are done even though they don’t have to be done.

This week’s The Better Way Challenge is to share the little things you do that you don’t have to do that differentiates you from your peers.

Who knows…maybe someone can use your idea to bring a little joy into someone’s life and make a difference!

My Office Story: A Tale of Misplaced Hubris

#TheBetterWay (e33) The Office Story – A Tale of Misplaced Hubris

I remember when I had my first leadership position. I had my own office, my own desk, my own computer…and a nameplate that said “Boss”. I thought I had made it to the top! …until the cleaning lady brought me back down to earth!

This is a TRUE STORY Remember, no one really cares about your title or positions…or that you’ve “made it to the top”…but they DO care about how you treat them on your way there!

How to Receive Feedback

#TheBetterWay (e30) How To Receive FeedBack

Last week we discussed how to *give* feedback.

This week we will discuss how to *receive* feedback!

It seems the more senior we get in our jobs, the less likely we are to receive feedback.

One tip I can give is to *set your pride aside* and understand the person giving you feedback is only trying to help!

What are your thoughts about receiving feedback? Let me know in the comments below!

How to Give FeedBack

#TheBetterWay (e29) How To Give Feedback

Welcome back! Today I discuss how to give feedback. No one likes to be on the receiving end of bad feedback.

Before giving feedback ask yourself these three questions:

Does it Hurt? Does it Help? Does it Matter?

If your feedback is either the first (Does it Hurt?) or the last (Does it Matter?), then don’t say it!

Asking yourself these three questions before providing feedback will let you know if your comments are appropriate.

Share below a time when you have either received or given good or back feedback. Let us know in the comments below!
